Amitabh Bachchan is the superstar we all knew
and he will remain one, thanks to his lifeline Kaun Banega
Crorepati. KBC has pumped in enough adrenaline into
Bachchan now. So much so that the man is ready to take on the
world now.
Yet he remains humble when needed.
Bachchan was shooting for the film All The
Best produced by Gaurang Doshi and directed by
Vipul Shah.
The man was totally at ease
shooting at a heavily crowded location like Mahalakshmi
Station on the Western Railway. His timing, his
sense of the shot was just too perfect, much better than the
trains on the railway. Imagine all the scenes that Bachchan
shot for during the day were canned on the first take. Making
the director's job easier was Paresh Rawal being the
co-star. The shots were canned with ease, making up for the
inordinate delay resulting due to the late arrival of the raw
stock.
Bachchan spoke to the entire press at one go,
facing ten TV cameras, and fifteen journalists. It was like
the good old days all over again.
Bytes from the
interview:
You are now a superstar and much more
how does it feel?
I have been lucky that people have
liked me in certain roles Even Kaun Banega Crorepati
has done well.
Why are you working with a new
director?
The director Vipul Shah is good. I liked the
script too. He is very good in the executing shots. He is
pretty fast.
You are back to playing leading roles
again which suit your age?
I have been lucky that I am
getting a leading role in this film All the Best, because it
has been written with a character like me ion mind. Otherwise
I am not playing much leading roles.
How would you
classify your roles now?
See, in this film I am now
playing a bank manager. It is said to be a negative role. Let
me explain. I am a very strict disciplinarian and cannot
tolerate indiscipline. I lose my temper often as I am shot
tempered. During one such occasion when I see one of my
co-workers cheating a customer, I lose my cool and get
violent. I am sacked. I want to take revenge and the easiest
way that comes to my mind is to rob the bank. I cannot do it
alone myself. So I devise a plan and use a few people to
achieve my motive.
What about Kabhi Khushi Kabhi
Gham? You are playing your age there?
I am but
there are other people there, Very talented people like
Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan,
Kajol and Kareena Kapoor. They are the
youth. They are exciting. People get excited watching
youthfulness. Similarly, I am not doing any song and dance
even in All The Best. The Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham role
and the one in Ek Rishta too are like the Mohabbatein
kind of roles.
Ok, now you travelled by train in
this film. How does it feel to be back in the local train?
I have been used to suburban train travel before I
started acting in films. I came here to act and often
travelled from Churchgate Station. I have used the Western
railway often as much as I used to travel from VT too.
You never travelled by local train after getting
into acting?
I did a scene for Saat
Hindustani in the train. Then there was the famous
scene from Shakti inside the train and this is
the third time now.
What are the changes you have
observed?
The crowds are much more.
How was
the crowded experience?
I have not experienced it as
my train in one, which has been specially arranged (Bachchan
was shooting with 300 junior artistes).
How is KBC
doing?
Very well
Are you happy being an
actor or an anchor?
Actually, a little bit of
both.
